High On The Hog

We are a few days away from celebrating Thanksgiving. I’m not even going to get on my soapbox about this holiday. You’re welcome.

In the meantime, as I’m getting our family ready to hunker down for the rest of the week, I had to menu plan and grocery shop. I was feeling a little wild, so I went grocery shopping with all three kids. I say that as if I ever get to go grocery shopping any other way. But it sounded dramatic and I could hear your sympathy as you read it.

So here we have exhibit A. Take note, while there are some prepared goodies up at the top {I did say we were hunkering down for the rest of the week}, you may notice that in actuality, most of the “food” represented here, is indeed, just ingredients.

Exhibit B. I don’t think I should keep repeating myself that we are hunkering down for the week. Just keep repeating that.

OK, I grow tired of taking pictures of my groceries {lazy}. That, and I’m sure you really just don’t want to see them. Besides, it’s just a lot of milk and diapers. We go through a lot of milk. Milk goes good with cookies {see first picture}. We go through a lot of diapers. I say “we” but you know, I really only mean one of us. That just seemed like it needed clarification.

Apparently, I’m discussing food today.

Yes, this is my lunch. Yes, it is yellow cheese, ritz crackers, a cut up slim jim, and a mini Dr. Pepper. Don’t sass me.

This was lunch last Thursday. Don’t judge.

We have recently decided to break one of our house rules. We solemnly swore two sacred vows many years ago.

#1 No frying food in the house, and

#2 No leftover fish

Well, since we can’t seem to find anywhere local that sells fried pickles, we’ve started frying our own. Oh sister, these things are amazing….like, um, I got nothing to compare it to. They’re fried pickles. Trust me, they’re good.

And since we broke the rule and fried some pickles, we figured we might as well fry up some onion rings and chicken, too. Hey, the house was already doomed to stinketh of fried food for the next two days anyways.

So, all that being confessed…I have no regrets 🙂

I’m super thankful for my family, our bounty of blessings, and our freedom. I don’t need a holiday to remind me of that. And I don’t need a Black Friday sale to remind me to stay away from the freaks who go shopping at 2 a.m. {no offense to those of you who consider yourselves freaks}.

Whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not, I pray you will be abundantly blessed this week.
